Are you ready for the time honored tradition of coming into a bar at the crack of dawn just to get kicked out before lunchtime?  Are youlynch prepared to indulge in copious amounts of corned beef while washing it down with an Irish Car Bomb?  Have you picked out a tacky collection of apparel that's colored green with clovers adorning every inch and all topped off with a plastic bowler hat!  Then my friends, you are ready for the Four Peaks St. Paddy's Day Extravaganza!

This year at the Tempe location our doors will open at 7 am for our famous St. Patrick's Breakfast Buffet and abbreviated breakfast menu.  The first 100 people through the door will receive a complimentary, limited-time only 4PBC commemorative T-Shirt (design not yet decided upon)!  Our menu for the morning lasts until 10 am and is as follows:

Don't fear, we will also be offering our entire regular menu that day just in case you are not a fan of the delicacies described herein (how you are able to sleep at night bewilders me).

We are well aware that St. Patrick's Day is almost as much about drinking as it is about culinary delights from the country of Eire.  This is why we are offering drink specials throughout the day!  Enjoy $3.50 pints of all your Four Peaks favorites from open until close (seasonals, cask and specialties do NOT apply) as well as specials on Irish Car Bombs, Dirty Girls Scouts, Nutty Irishmen and nearly anything else involving Jameson, Bailey's or Stout!

SEASONAL DU JOUR

A Belgian Black Ale: Please read the Brewers Blog for further information!!  It will be released tomorrow (Thursday, February 26th)!!!  We decided to just refer to it by its style as no one could decide on a proper title.  Rejected names included Big Black Belgian and Jean-Claude van DAMN!!! (yes, the 3 exclamation points were essential) but these were all passed on... I know, I couldn't understand it either!

5 Questions With Norm Bligh...

Norm Bligh, although not technically employed under the umbrella of Four Peaks and its subsidiaries, is still an integral part of the machinery that makes us operate from day to day.  As a continual top performer for Team Shamrock, he keeps the kitchen stocked with everything it needs to provide you with that French Dip, Reuben, Chicken Rolls, etc. you crave.  Usually snuggled comfortably in his second office (The prestigious Four Peaks silverware rolling station), he is constantly figuring out the logistics behind finding that choice cut of elk just so we can wrap it up in a corn tortilla for your daily special!  Being the loving and devoted father that he is, he even went on the television game show, "My Dad Is Better Than Your Dad" with his daughter to challenge the worth of his own superior!  Talk about cojones!  So let's spend a moment with Shamrock's and Reality TV's own...Norm!

1.  When you come in as a normal civilian and not a popular TV reality show action star, which Four Peaks beer is your favorite?  Please elaborate.

Tim without a doubt, Reality TV Star or Civilian, KILT LIFTER is by far my favorite brew at Four Peaks.  It numbs the pain that Chef's Arthur and Daryn put me through on a day to day basis.  Then when Randy chimes in I blackout. So every day starts anew, a cycle I've grown accustomed to. Hooray for Kilt Lifter!!!
  kilt logo

2. What is your secret behind being the continual top performer for Shamrock Foods?  Any advice you can give to the burgeoning Sales Rep?

Every business has a corporate office where day to day operations are handled.  I'd have to say since I've set up my satellite office in the back of the house at Four Peaks it has aided to my success.  It also has kept my minutes down on my cell phone, because I'm just a shout away form the kitchen.  WOULD YOU CONCUR DARYN???

3. What is the most exotic food item you ever had to order for the Four Peaks kitchen folk?

Well, there have been many exotic food items over the years, but most recently I would have to say that during the now famous Beer Dinners (held around six times a year) were the Halibut cheeks of which I had two helpings... also the puff pastry wrapped Caribou, which (coincidentally) I provided. On a serious note, if you love the main menu then you shouldshamrock foods logo make reservations for the next beer dinner where Chef Arthur and Brew Master Andy pair the wonderful hops and, sometimes, off the wall food items together in perfect harmony. It does not to disappoint. Two other exotics that come to mind were the Dr. Pepper Braised Short Ribs an the Foie Gras (duck liver) pot stickers.

side note: Who knew a little Chef from the big city of NY could make Sushi at a brewery?

4.  Seeing as you were part of the wildly popular "My Dad Is Better Than Your Dad" Reality/Game Show (currently on hiatus), what other television projects are on your agenda?  (Extra credit if you use "Dr. Ross from ER" and "guest starring as his better looking brother" in your answer.)

Well Tim, "My Dad" was a great experience I shared with both my daughter and wife, but I feel I am ready for something bigger... say Hell's Kitchen filmed at Four Peaks from January 1st leading up to St. Patrick's Day!  If the world only new what happens behind those kitchen doors. The TV ratings would be better than American Idol. My second reality choice...  maybe Survivor, I've been servicing Four Peaks for seven years and have been kicked out for a year, set on fire twice by the crazy kitchen staff (called a hot seat) with no injuries to speak of and now I've been with them for five great years.  Randy, you may not know, is also aspiring to be on Survivor, you are aware he's from Minnesota and it's cold there...

5. The first night game ever played in the NFL was in Rhode Island on Nov. 6th, 1929 between the (then) Chicago Cardinals and The Providence Steam Roller.  Who is your favorite character on "Family Guy?"peter griffin

You lost me here.  I'm from Rhode Island, and I now live in Arizona, the Cardinals? I don't watch cartoons, my life is animated enough!!  I would have to say though, my favorite thing to watch is Friday afternoons at the brewery, usually from my office space in the back of the house, listening to Randy and Arthur calmly discussing opinions.  Now that's something fun to watch!!!

That was worth it just to throw in that picture of Peter Griffin!  All of us at Four Peaks would like to thank Norm for all his years of service towards the common cause of providing top notch menu items at affordable prices!  Thanks for participating!

The Brewers Blog

We were going to do "What the Hell Am I Tasting" this week on the Hop Knot, but due to circumstances out of our control Hop Knot isn't actually on tap right now.  Well, the circumstances aren't exactly true.  A good instance of economics 101 caught us with our pants down.  It seems we went through 80 kegs of Hop Knot in seven days.  This is about doublethe fonz our normal demand.  It's clearly a case of demand outstripping supply, and it's a supply that's seriously stressed by a shortage of hops (which are crucial in a beer named Hop Knot).  Breweries aren't kitchens, when kitchens run out of something at lunch it could be back by dinner.  Breweries aren't that agile they don't turn on a dime, in fact, they turn like battleships and we're trying to bring this one around.

Jeez, all that just to say we're sorry, sorry.

So, in lieu of the Hop Knot tutorial we've decide to have a little internal Q&A about our newest seasonal which is out tomorrow; Belgian Black Ale.  This won't be as emotionally withering as Tim's "5 Questions with..." but here it goes.

What is Belgian Black Ale?

Belgian Black Ale falls into the vast category of Belgian Strong Dark Ale.  Belgian Strong Dark Ale is literally any Belgian strong ale that is not light.  Confused?  It's OK.  Most Belgian beers vary so greatly from town to town, brewer to brewer, style to style (and even within styles) that they are classified into these massive catch-all categories.

The most common thread amongst most Belgian beers (with 1,257 exceptions) is in the yeast character which tends to be very fruity (in our case; plums and bananas) and they have a slightly phenolic (smoky?) aroma as well.  They also tend to have a slight acidity, however ours is quite low in acid.

What makes Belgian Black Ale different?

Most Belgian brewers don't venture into the inky black color level that our Belgian Black has.  They tend to stay amber or brown.  This means that Belgian Black has a more pronounced roasty or stout-like character.

What do we mean by "strong"?

7.2% alcohol.  Not a monster but no push-over either.

How long will it last?

Probably not too long.  We decided to take half of the brew and put it into oak barrels where they will age for at least three months, maybe longer (probably longer).  At that time we will release Barrel-Aged Belgian Black.  What's on tap now will not be oak-aged, but please try and make a mental note of its flavors and aromas then come back for the Barrel-aged version and see the difference a little wood can make (Puh-lease...get your mind out of the gutter).

The Grill & Tap Dispatch
with Mike Kruchko

This guy walks into a bar and tells the bartender to line up 10 glasses and start filling them up with beer.  So thekruchko pic bartender starts filling the glasses up with beer while the man at the bar is drinking them straight down.  The bartender says, "Hey buddy what's your hurry"?  The man says, "If you had what I have, you would do the same thing."  The bartender backs up and says, "What do you have?"  The man says, "About 75 cents!"

Ok, ok, not one of my best, but I remember the time I hung out and got hammered with Don Rickles and he told me to always open with a joke.  Well, it's worked for him for the last 113 years, so I figured I'd give it a try.  On a more serious note, today being Wednesday the 25th means only one thing...Spring Training officially kicks off today!  I'm here to remind you to make Four Peaks your pre/post Cactus League stop this season, 'cause as much as this guy loves being at the ball park, there's only so much mass produced domestic "water" that you can drink while enjoying the day, so leave that stuff for the amateurs and get your Four Peaks on instead...believe me, you will thank us later.

Speaking of thanking people, rumor has it that one Patrick Murphy will be putting together an action packed Spring Training extravaganza showcasing a game of his choice.  I can't give any details on this becausecactus league it may be just a crazy rumor, but don't hesitate to head into the Brewery and ask him yourself...we all know how Murph loves the extra attention!

Speaking of Murph, St. Patrick's Day is right around the corner.  Keep your eyes and ears open for all the fun details of a "Super Tuesday" of a different kind.  Yes, it's Tuesday this year, so plan on taking a mid-week vacation from work and start with us (either at the Grill & Tap or the Brewery) at 7am this year! Free T-Shirts (for the die hards that get there early) along with breakfast and Irish Car Bombs is how I love to start my day, now each of you can join us on what is hands down one of our favorite days of the year.  I'm gonna say that 92% of you have been with us for years on St. Paddy's, but for the few that may be new to this...make your plans now.  Both locations will be offering authentic Irish food like Shepherd's Pie and Corn Beef & Cabbage from 10 am on as well as $3.50 Four Peaks pints all day with multiple shot specials!

Now that I'm super pumped for all these "wicked sweet" days that are ahead of us, I do want to take a second and take care of some "business".  There are a few out there that fight technology and being "old school" at the Peaks as we are this may come as a bit of a shocker, but up here in North Scottsdale we have gone "hi tech."  As of this week, the Grill & Tap has installed free Wi-Fi for its customers.  Now before
wi fi you get all excited to move your office and settle in at the bar for your weeks worth of work, we are going to ask a couple of things from you.  Being that iPhones are everywhere these days, this will undoubtedly help you connect to the network you desire, easy enough; but if you plan on pulling out the laptop, there are a few stipulations.  We ask that you respect others by refraining from sitting at the bar with your computer.  We have plenty of space throughout the restaurant, so this should not be a problem.  Plus, we are not responsible for beverages spilled on anyones computer, this should be a no brainer, but compute at your own risk!  Secondly, we ask that you don't camp out (you know, work all day and drink water...don't be that guy...that's what coffee houses are for!).

Ok kids, I'm off to catch a few innings of the Brewers (why the Brewers you ask...I have a small man crush on Ryan Braun, but don't tell anyone) before I head to the office.  Have a great 7 days and I'll be back next week with a Four Peaks plan for the upcoming World Baseball Classic... and maybe another world class joke while I'm at it!

You can contact us in Scottsdale at 480-991-1795 or at Scottsdale@fourpeaks.com
