Reconstruction
As you may have noticed we are currently in the middle of a huge remodel! We are expanding our lavatory area, our brewhouse and whatever else we feel like. As we suffer through such growing pains, you will no doubt be hearing the lovely sounds of sledgehammers, power equipment and heavy machinery backing up. We apologize in advance for any discomfort this may be to your hangover, but we have plenty of delicious beer to make that throbbing go away! If you are gone for the summer be prepared for a whole new look in the back of the brew floor upon your return, we know you're going to love it!
Remember that this Saturday the 20th is the DRAFT Magazine Craft Beer Benefit at Turf Paradise. This event will be going on from 1 pm until 5 pm and will feature, as they put it, rare selections from the World's Best Breweries. All proceeds go to PBS. I know I put this in last week, but their blurb is better than anything I could say, so here it is:
The boutique tasting is limited to 500 people who will be given the
opportunity to sample world-class, small batch and rare beers from
around the globe. In addition to presentations by individual brewers,
there will be tables highlighting the beers of Colorado, Belgium,
California and unique international selections. This intimate event features beer and food pairings with artisan cheeses and meats provided
by Whole Foods Market, raffle items including gift certificates and
special bottles donated by breweries, and the opportunity to interact
with brewers and beer experts.
Tickets are still available for this event and can be purchased by clicking HERE. For more information on the event, click HERE. See you there!
Time is running out to get your tickets for this Monday's (the 22nd) Monday Night Chef's Table at the Hotel Valley Ho! We are proud to be the featured beverage for that evening and this is a great gift idea to give dad for Father's Day just in case you're one of those last minute people! Once again, if you have any question, please check out them out on the worldwide web (website). This soiree starts at 6:30 pm and at a very affordable $52 per person is an event not to be missed! Their four course menu that evening is as follows:

frizzled tortillas, honey + lime
Grilled
Marquez Sausage

Dateline: June 16th
2009
Some days you just have to get out of the house, you know
what I mean? As my day began, everyone
was out of the office and the long curtain of quiet descended upon the office of
upper management as well as my Brewsletter "bullpen" (which is one desk of just
me in case you're wondering). What was I
going to write about? Then a moment of divine
providence fell out of the sky (or through the office door) by the name of Ted
Golden! After discussing things that
should be put in the Brewsletter you are currently reading, we decided to take
our adventure on the road to Carlsbad Tavern!
I love to take a moment out of my busy day and check out the goings on
around town and today was as good as any to do it!
If you've never been, Carlsbad Tavern is an outstanding
establishment on Hayden just South of Osborne that offers some of the finest
New Mexican Style cuisine in the Valley.
Well, rolling in on a Tuesday afternoon with Ted "The Magic Man" Golden
is always a treat, it allows us time to talk shop, have a bite, take some
pictures and still get paid! Now, I've
been to Carlsbad Tavern a number of times with the likes of Johnny "Vegas" Hostak
on a few of his all-day-binge-drinking-bar-hops, so it was nice to show up
sober. I've always enjoyed the look of
the place, the atmosphere, their unique patio and the Early Bat Special
Blackened Ribeye Quesadilla (served from 3
to 6 pm); so
it was nice to further explore the menu!
Let's take you through the voyage:
1. New Mexican Potstickers
-chicken
and Anaheim chiles with a sweet
corn cream sauce
Very, very tasty, recommended by the staff and did not
disappoint. Quite delicious by themselves but with the sweet corn cream sauce,
exceptional! I wish they would have
given me a straw to finish the sauce with... 3.5 out of 4 Peaks
2. Tequila Shrimp
-6 Mexican shrimp marinated in
tequila and fresh lime juice, grilled and glazed with orange-cilantro pesto
Just the right amount of heat to make your eyes water! Served on a tortilla with black beans, this
also came highly recommended and I could see why. If you are a bit squeamish when it comes to
spicy (i.e. if you buy Pace Picante Sauce in its Extra Mild format) you may
want to think twice, but if you want a great appetizer to accompany that Kilt
Lifter in your hand, I would steer you in that direction, just wish there were
a few more... 3.5 out of 4 Peaks
3. Enchantment Platter
-carne
adovada burrito, chicken enchilada and chile relleno with sopaipilla
Lives up to its name that's for sure, served with rice
and beans you definitely won't walk away hungry. My favorite was the carne adovada burrito,
Ted preferred the chile relleno. That
didn't really matter though; they all had a distinctly different taste that can
be hard to find in some restaurants that serve similar items. The chicken enchilada seemed a bit dry but
thankfully I had some left over sweet corn cream sauce to bring it back around...
4 out of 4 Peaks (thanks to the sweet corn sauce).
Carlsbad Tavern is a great place to go to eat or to just sit and hang out on the patio, for more information on the entire menu and all they have to offer, click HERE. Stop in and have a Kilt Lifter or Hefeweizen with your entree today!

5 Questions With... Colleen Wall
Seeing as Mr. Mike Kruchko, Scottsdale Correspondent for the most esteemed Brewsletter in America, is on the road and was only able to submit an abbreviated Dispatch this week, I thought it was only fair to ask 5 Questions of a dedicated "Northie." Colleen Wall, a member of the pervasive Massachusetts Mafia, agreed to shed a little light on what goes on at our sibling locale. Colleen has been with 4PBC for several years and is an exemplary employee at the Grill & Tap. Although it should go without saying, the Grill & Tap happens to be air conditioned for those of you who have a hard time dealing with the heat, they typically have our Hopsquatch on tap for a longer duration and still offer you the chance to play Golden Tee! At any rate, we are happy she agreed to be interrogated for this segment and we promised to go easy on her. Alright handsome, you're up...not you Fat Jesus.... 1) Which is your favorite Four Peaks beer? Please explain.
The Hopsquatch! I've tried my fair share of
Barleywine and ours is by far the best!! I'm not a huge hop head but I
have a lot of respect for a beer that can have an alcohol percentage
over 11 and still taste great!
2) A lot of our readers haven't
been to Four Peaks North, so please answer to following 2 questions I
get the most. #1) Is this bar Beeper Friendly - where is your bank of
pay phones? And #2) Where can we park, I'm not supposed to be within
200 feet of a school or a Chucky Cheese. (obviously this is just about
the movie "The Hangover" answer it how you would like)
You guys may not know this, but I consider
myself...a bit of a loner. I tend to think of myself as a one woman wolf
pack. But when I had my first beer, I knew it was one of my own. And my
wolf pack, it grew by one. So there... there was two of us in the
pack. I...I was alone first in the pack, and then beer joined in later. And 3
years ago, when my love of beer introduced me to Four Peaks I
thought... "wait a second, could it be?" And now I know for sure, I just
added Four Peaks to my wolf pack. Just us wolves running around the
desert together, in North Scottsdale looking for great beer and food.
So tonight, we make a toast!
We have PLENTY of parking and only allow beepers if accompanied by a Satchel... what? Indiana Jones wears one. 3) What places around the Valley,
aside from the Brewery or the Grill & Tap, do you like to frequent
to enjoy a tasty Four Peaks beverage? Why?
I'm always on the hunt for a great patio here are a few of my fav's....
Carlsbad Tavern (Hayden and Thomas) Not only do
they have our Hefe on tap, they have a patio with a MOAT! Also a great
place to enjoy The Pumpkin Porter when fall comes around!
The Vig (40th and Indian School) They have a big patio, a great crowd, Kiltlifter on tap, and BOCCE BALL!
4) With summer being upon us, which Four Peaks menu item would you say best compliments these upcoming 110+ degree days?
If your like me when it gets hot out, you lose a
bit of your appetite. I'd suggest the Spinach Salad..light and bathing
suit friendly. You can kick it up with some blackened salmon, chicken or even shrimp! Yum
5) There will no doubt be plenty of down time coming up as well, what are you planning on doing to beat the heat this summer?
Like most, bouncing between the pool and A/C
while trying to stay hydrated! I'm sure I'll be putting my Four Peaks
Koozies to good use! (Now available in a myriad of colors at both locations!!!!) Well Ms. Wall, we would like to thank you for participating in a "Better Know A Northie" installment of the the 5 Questions. I have one further question for you to answer at your leisure: Does said satchel in Question 3 need to have Skittles inside? Just wondering...

The Brewers Blog
A brief Brewers Blog today.
What's the problem?
Holes. There are holes
everywhere; holes in the bathroom floor, holes in the brewery floor, and one
really big hole in the roof.

Of course they're supposed to be there (temporarily), but it
doesn't make it any less nerve racking watching great clouds of dust roll
through the building. It's actually not
the dust we're worried about it's the little creatures that ride on dust and
love beer even more than you do. That's
right, bacteria. It is literally
everywhere and when you go and stir up the ground beneath you it gives the
little buggers a means of going mobile.
But fret not, we have doubled our efforts in cleaning and sanitizing
(which were doubled to begin with) and we are sure no harm will come to our
(your) beer.
As the editor of this fine Brewsletter may have mentioned
we're expanding the ladies room, thus the hole in the bathroom for the plumbing. We're also poring a new sloped concrete floor
for the new brewhouse to sit on which meant we had to chip out the old floor (its
actually being pored as we type and it's apparently fascinating stuff if judged
by the number of people standing around watching it dry).
The big hole, the worrisome one, is the one in the
roof. Now you may think, big deal, my
roof leaks as well. But we're not
talking about that kind of dinky little hole, ours is about 10 feet wide by 14
feet long. We put it there so we can add
a removable hatch over that section. The
hatch can then be removed by a crane and the new equipment will be "dropped"
(not our favorite term, we prefer "gently lowered") in through the
opening. Why not use the door? Too small, this is big stuff.
So, with that we will let you continue reading the comic
stylings of our Editor or the recent happenings up at the North location
(affectionately known as "Norte") while we continue to ponder why it is we do
this to ourselves.
Ah growth, that's right.

The Grill & Tap Dispatch
with Mike Kruchko
After reading your share of our world renown Brewsletter,
you may have noticed that our esteemed Brewsletter architect, one Mr. Tim
Neuman, has what most like to call some unique qualities. I myself have known Tim for a looong time and
have always wondered what makes him tick.
So, what the heck am I getting at?
Well, this week I come to you from the road with a personal quest of
sorts. I'm in Minneapolis, Minnesota
(Tim's home state) trying to uncover what, if anything, is in the water up here
that makes our Tim, "Neuman"
So while I explore the land of a lot of lakes and interview
a million Viking fans that actually believe the 40 year old Brett Favre will be
the missing piece to bring them to the Super Bowl, I'll leave you to enjoy the
Brewer's Blog and other items of this week's readings.
But, before I go; I want to give you this week's installment
of "Show Us Your Cans". I'm excited to see our
first entry from our neighbors south of the
border. Brittany (I'm not going to use
last names this week...we're not looking to get anyone in trouble for bringing
beers over the border. Then again, I
don't even know if there's a problem with that?
Oh well...I digress) and some of her friends took in some sun and sand in
Puerto Penasco, Mexico, for the Roger Clyne & the Peacemakers show and to
celebrate her 30th Birthday.
Well, she was kind enough to share some Kilt Lifter in exchange for her
name on rice. I agree with you Brittany,
your buddy definitely got the better part of that deal, but I can't say enough
about your generosity; you're a better person than me! Thanks for the great picture and Happy
Birthday Brittany...we
hope you had a great time.
Ok guys, wish me luck on my excursion
and keep those pics coming.

You can contact us in
Scottsdale at 480-991-1795 or at Scottsdale@fourpeaks.com
submit all "can" photography to: mike@fourpeaks.com

A Few Parting Words...
As we wrap up another edition, I want to let you all know that Hop Knot bottles are available to take home tomorrow (Thursday), so stop on in and pick some up for the weekend! Our Kilt Lifter cans will also be back Friday afternoon, so make sure you pick some up as well, they are a hot commodity going into the Dog Days! Don't forget the Father's Day Buffet in Tempe and the Expanded Brunch menu in Scottsdale this Sunday. Treat Dad to some of the finest food and drink he could ever ask for. All details can be found HERE in case you've forgotten! Lastly we would like to welcome McCool's Bar and Grill at 4910 W. Ray Rd. in Chandler and Tee Pee Mexican Food at 4144 East Indian School Road in Phoenix to the Four Peaks family of outstanding accounts. One is brand new, the other a 40 year Valley institution, we couldn't be happier! So go out sometime this week and give a little love to our newest friends...tell them you read about it in the Four Peaks Brewsletter!!! Customer Comment Of The Week...Actually, this weeks customer comment comes to us via word of mouth as was told to Ted Golden. The names and places have been dropped to protect the innocent. I swear this is the God honest truth!!! Here is the skinny... Not too long ago, a Four Peaks enthusiast witnessed one Jennifer Love-Hewitt purchase a bottle of Four Peaks 8th Street Ale at a high class Resort in the Valley renown for its love of Four Peaks Beers. Upon acquiring the beverage, Ms. Love-Hewitt had her travel companion pour the entire beer all over her. The purpose, according to said witness, "Darker Ales assist in getting a darker tan." There you have it, Four Peaks 8th Street Ale, helping Hollywood achieve the perfect tan one celebrity at a time! Did I say that this is a TRUE story!!!! We love you Love-Hewitt, no matter how you prefer to enjoy a Four Peaks Beer! Cheers!
I
like beer. On occasion, I will even drink beer to celebrate a major
event such as the fall of Communism or the fact that the refrigerator
is still working.
