Yes, We Will Be Open!
The World Cup Soccer game between the United States and England could not have gone any better. A crowd comparable to that of the NFL's opening week arrived at both of our locations on Saturday morning to make it one of the busiest summer days we've ever had! The masses have spoken almost as loudly as the drone of the vuvuzela horns making the rounds for this year's games. Get ready for the second U.S. game against Slovenia this Friday morning at 7 am! Peel yourself out of bed and call in to work because you need to join Murph, Ashley C., and yours truly as we open our doors at 7 am for your viewing pleasure!* You owe yourself a 3 day weekend and we are more than happy to oblige. Even though beverages will be pouring at 7 am sharp to coincide with the start of the game, the kitchen will still be opening at its regularly scheduled time of 11 am. Come to think of it, why not make plans to "be sick" on Wednesday the 23rd so you can stop by for the U.S./Algeria game as well! We plan on opening up at 7 am with beverage service for that one too!* We're looking forward to serving you. * - This offer is only good at our Four Peaks Tempe location (sorry, Scottsdale). Any similarities to offers made by other locations is purely coincidental. Four Peaks Tempe endorses the 2010 World Cup Soccer Championship but cannot guarantee the desired outcome for each specific viewer. Four Peaks Tempe asks that you please drink responsibly, be courteous to anyone with differing national allegiances and to leave those damn "mosquito-sounding" horns at home. Four Peaks thanks you in advance! Have you made your plans to spend Father's Day with us yet? Time is starting to get short and we still have room for larger parties! Don't forget that you need to make reservations at our Tempe location by contacting Manager/Head Ginger and all around nice guy, Steve Lynch, at steve@fourpeaks.com or by calling us at (480) 303-9967. I've included the menus for both of our locations in this issue for those needing a refresher. Think about it, what father wouldn't want to spend his special day at a brewery? Speaking of Father's Day, how about that ASU baseball team? They will begin their quest to be the 2010 College World Series Champion beginning at 4 pm on Sunday, June 20th. Come in to cheer our boys on to victory this Sunday against an up and coming Clemson squad. For more game times and other teams involved, check out the LATEST CWS BRACKET! In This Issue:- The Brewers talk about ghosts and the never ending search for the perfect beer. - The Grill & Tap discusses the concept of "green" and the many ways it may be affecting your life RIGHT NOW! - Father's Day Menus revisited - Some of the crazy stuff that goes on behind the scenes - Plus your weekly countdown, our award winning Sunbru and much, much more! |

The Brewers Blog
We've been privy to a bit of
supernatural
mumbo-jumbo lately. You know, ghosts, spirits, "shadows", that
sort of thing. It seems that the sorts of people who claim to
be able to "feel" these sorts of things get "strong feelings"
of this sort in certain areas of the brewery. Frankly, we feel sort of weird about
it all. Sorry for the vagueness but isn't
that really what a lot of this ghost hunting is all about?
You've probably seen the show Ghost Adventures
on the Travel Channel, or the five other shows just like it (and yes,
that is two blogs in a row of Travel Channel references; we get it,
we need lives...). They're usually about a group of grown men
going into dark, empty buildings with night-vision cameras and scaring
the crap out of each other. Our favorite part is when a cat meows
or water drips from a pipe and the sound is funneled through some device
that looks like a modulator thingamajig from Radio Shack circa 1967.
Inevitably it is translated as, "get out" or "help us" or some
other creepy thing other than a cat's meow or a water drip "proving"
that ghosts do exist. What does all of this have to do with
us? Well, these ghost hunters kind of remind us of some craft
beer bloggers and aficionados who are constantly searching for things
that aren't necessarily there; like the never ending pursuit of the
"BEST" beer. They sip, and rate, and sip, and blog and to
this day they haven't found the best one yet. The problem is
that, like apparitions, the best is what you perceive at that time and
place. So, if Zak Bagans hears ghosts and you don't is he wrong?
(This is not a question of reality or sanity but one of perception).
Well, we think someone like that is only wrong if they impose their
perception on you. You want to believe in ghosts, go ahead.
Just don't insist that muffled sounds and cold breezes are, in fact,
spirits. If you have a favorite beer, that's great, but it may
not be someone else's. Drink what YOU like, and don't be
pigeon-holed in to thinking it's not the "best"; to you, it is.
And have an open mind, because after saying all that, this old building
is pretty creepy when you're all alone in the wee hours of the night... AHHH!!! WHAT WAS THAT!!!?

That's the Most Crazy @$$ Thing I've Ever Seen
The folks that work in our kitchen are a strange breed. I've seen them do things with pureed habaneros and ground cinnamon that no person in his or her right mind would ever do. During the downtime between lunch and dinner rushes that old saying about the devil and idle hands can really come into play. Last week this photo was taken of Bartender Heidi Raitz consuming an entire cow's eyeball on a dare, one of the most crazy @$$ things I've ever seen!*
For your information a cow's eye is a bit smaller than a cue ball, there was a small amount of money to be made and in no way, I was informed, did it taste like chicken... * - The Four Peaks Brewing Company, Brewsletter and all subsidiaries do not necessarily condone or advise the activities that sometimes take place at our establishment. Most of these stunts are done with very little preparation or forethought by people with even less training. Four Peaks recommends that you DO NOT TRY THIS AT HOME! That being said, we are all proud of what you accomplished Heidi, and we're pretty sure your parents are too!

The Grill & Tap Dispatch with Dave Tanzi
This week we're a lean, green Dispatch machine and we're not even recycling! Green is the color of the moment, the color of the future, the Color of Money, and of course, as we all know from Wall Street (sequel to be released this fall!), green is good. And so is greed.
SWEET CAROLINA: Unemployed military veteran Alvin Greene wins the South Carolina democratic primary for senator. In addition to having no job, Mr. Greene also has no staff, no slogan, no advertising, no lawn signs, no buttons, no campaign headquarters, no party support, no contributions, no cell phone, no website and no computer. Now that's streamlined, baby! And he lives at home with his father. He kind of reminds me of Forrest Gump's best buddy Bubba.
KEEPING THE FAITH: The US vs. England match belonged to the goalkeepers. Tim Howard was a vacuum cleaner and British Keeper Robert Green recovered from his blunder by making and outstanding save on a blitzing strike by Altidore. So remember that before you hang him, England. The turn out at the Grill and Tap was outstanding, both in numbers and in spirit. We greatly appreciate your patronage and patience; in fact it was such a good crowd we almost considered opening at 7 am for you on Friday. The keyword is 'almost' there, unfortunately. The good news is we hear some nut job in Tempe is going to open the bar that early for you, god bless 'em.
CELTIC PRIDE: Some of us up north found ourselves in the precarious position of rooting for the Lakers on Tuesday night, only because a Game 7 is good for business (remember, green and greed are both good). With that secure we hope to see you all in droves on Thursday. We have no official bias of course, just our favorite color. Tip off is at 6 PM.

Now Lets Blow This Thing and Go Home.
Time for the weekly rundown:
1. The MTV
Movie Awards - Did you catch all the excitement last week! Yeah, I know, the only people less interested
in the ceremony other than me were the nominees themselves! The entire cast of the Twilight movies looked
bored to tears. 2. Phoenix New
Times Write Up - It may be almost gone but our collaborative brew is getting
some good face time on the internet, check out the latest write up in the Phoenix
New Times from earlier this week right HERE! 3. The Cans Are Coming! - We are beginning to
distribute our cans of Sunbru and Kilt Lifter to select resorts and golf
courses around the Valley, feel free to start asking for them by name! If you feel the need to cool down 3-7 degrees
and find yourself in Tucson, locations like The Hut are already
featuring our cans of Sunbru, stop in and tell 'em the Brewsletter sent you! 4. Try our Award Winning Sunbru! - Our Sunbru
recently won a trophy in the Reno International Canned Beer Festival back in
October of last year. Why not stop in
and pick up a 12 pack of the 2009 Silver Medal Winner today? 5. Timecop -
The one and only Jean-Claude Van Damme is the Official Four Peaks 2010 Summer Action Hero. Check out Timecop from 1994 when he is pitted
against the ultimate baddie, Ron Silver, in what can only be referred to as
pure acting gold!* *- The
views and opinions of the author expressed above as well as any reference
herein to specific commercial products, process, "official" person or
service does not necessarily constitute or imply its endorsement,
recommendation, or favoring by the Four Peaks Brewing Company, The Grill &
Tap, or the Brewsletter. Especially since
it is well known that the only reason the author likes Timecop is because it features Ferris Bueller's girlfriend in it when she was still quite the fetching beauty! 6. Sarah Kelly
- Recently found in the "Which Kelly Sister Is Graduating Now" file; Sarah
Kelly, Melissa's sister, will be graduating with a Fashion Design Marketing
Development Conceptual Advisory Degree (or something like that) this week! I know I speak for all of us at the Four Peaks Family when I say, "go back"! It's a
dog eat dog world out there that not even that Sarah McLachlan commercial could
prepare you for (and who's going to have the cajones to kick the drunks out after
midnight on weekends?). 7. Can
Photography - In the past couple of weeks we have received a few pictures of
Kilt Lifter cans making their way around the globe. Our very own Jim Roper took some Kilt Lifter
on a trip to Oak Creek as witnessed below.
A rare moment of tranquility |
Meanwhile, Vikings
regular and Four Peaks enthusiast, Amy Langord, took her little buddy Kilt Lifter on a tour of Europe, see for your self:
