Ahh, Summer...
Well, as anyone could notice from the rise in gas prices, Memorial Day is quickly approaching! As the dog days roll in we are taking it rather slowly here at the Brewery and the Grill & Tap. To capitalize on the slowdown, we are going to be doing a little bit of kitchen renovation in Tempe so as to better serve you. Starting on Monday night, June 8th through early Wednesday, June 10th we will be offering a limited picnic menu consisting of the following:
Starters
Chips and salsa..........................................$6 Hummus and Vegetables...........................$7
Salads
Spinach Salad...............................................$9 Chef Salad...................................................$10 Caesar Salad.................................................$8 House Green Salad................................$7.50
Hot Entrees
BBQ Chicken..................................................$10 BBQ Pork.........................................................$10 Grilled Cheddar Cheeseburger..................$8.50
We can hardly wait to get these much needed improvements taken care of and we hope you can bear with us for those few days.
Also we would like to thank the folks at azcentral.com for ranking us 26th in their list of 50 Arizona Culinary Stars. Although the actual rankings were published only in the Arizona Republic, you can see all 50 by clicking HERE.
Speaking of Memorial Day, don't forget to stop in to the Brewery or the Grill & Tap to pick up a 12 pack of either the Kilt Lifter or the Sunbru Kolsch before you head off to the beach, the backyard BBQ or whatever you crazy kids like to do! Our friendly and personable bar staff is always ready to help. If that isn't enough, feel free to opt for bottles of Kilt Lifter and 8th Street in 6 packs for $7.99 and cases for $25 or cases of Hop Knot bottles for $36.50.
Now let's get on with this week in brew news. It being slow I am taking a brief rest this week and saving myself for a special "Wild Card" installment next week as well as 5 questions with...ohhh, I'm not going to tell! Instead I'll leave the content to the capable hands of Scottsdale Mike and Brewer Melissa (who writes about the new seasonal). I'll end it on a quote from one of the best shows on television, 30 Rock. Take it away Tracy Jordan:
There's no link between diabetes and diet. That's a white myth, Ken. Like Larry Bird or Colorado. Your Friends at The Four Peaks Brewery and Four Peaks Grill & Tap |

The Grill & Tap Dispatch
with Mike Kruchko
With the
first day of summer right around the corner, the NBA playoffs going into what
feels like its third month and the WAY too early release of Michael Vick, this
kid is in dire need of some Memorial Day fun!
So where does that leave me?
Well, since my 28 ft. boat that I was hoping for as an engagement present
never came, the lake is out. Not to
fret, I'm sure Monday is going to be HOT HOT HOT to quote Buster Poindexter, so
why not move it on in to the AC of the Grill & Tap! (And yes, I just
threw out a Buster Poindexter reference)
It's no secret that I'm as big a baseball nut
as anyone and with the, how do I say, tough beginning for the "next generation"
manager of the D-Backs; it may be time to focus our attention on the league as a
whole. I say perfect timing! Monday is Memorial Day and the one thing
Major League Baseball knows how to do is to schedule a packed day of action on
the one day America
loves (to drink beer and eat BBQ!). So
if you're like me and sans boat, head over to Peaks North and join us for unlimited
baseball, cold beer and Chef Derek Sandlin Webb firing up the grill for some of
the best BBQ/Baseball/Memorial Day grub you'll find in town! Games start early (I know you're wondering ~
the Red Sox get under way at 11:10am
AZ time). So ditch the holiday traffic,
stay in town and spend your three day weekend with your best friends Kilt
Lifter, 8th St. Raj & Hop Knot to name a few. Okay, so it's settled; I'll see each of you
next week...and with that I'm leaving you guys with what may be the shortest
Dispatch in quite some time. It's cloudy
out and the weather is amazing right now, so I'm forcing myself to get out and
enjoy it, as should you.
Before I
go, I mentioned last week that a beautiful new can of Kilt Lifter was spotted
in Vegas being held by no other than Caesar himself. Well, that was no tale and now we have the
visual proof. So keep the pics coming;
if you get some good ones make sure you send them my way to mike@fourpeaks.com....till
next time. Oops, in my haste I almost
forgot! Congrats to all of the graduates
out there...nice work ; )

You can contact us in
Scottsdale at 480-991-1795 or at Scottsdale@fourpeaks.com

The Brewers Blog
This weeks Brewers Blog is a little tidbit on our new seasonal, the Little Saison That Could. Created by Melissa Osborne, it is the latest in a long line of summer seasonals we know you'll enjoy. Now Melissa, I believe you have the floor...
The French word for season, saison, has become a stylistic designation to distinguish a group of beers from Wallonia, the French-speaking region of Belgium. Today these historically seasonal ales are brewed year-round. Saisons present a complex character that is both aggressive and subtle.
Being brewed on a seasonal basis, these beers, which became known as saison, had to be within a specific strength range. Too strong and they wouldn't be a decent thirst quencher, too weak and they wouldn't hold up during the storage period. Moderate to medium-strong became the default potency. And, similar to other ales like I.P.A. that also had to endure prolonged storage, saisons were hopped liberally to combat contamination and add stability.
Our version of a saison has been hopped with East Kent Goldings and we used four different spices (lavender, juniper, grains of paradise and grapefruit zest). 15% rye malt has been incorporated to give a spicy yet refreshing flavor to the beer. It is hot outside so we thought we'd make it a drinker with only 4.9% ABV.

A Few Parting Words...
And now for part 1 in a continuing series of "101 Things You Can Do With Our Cans" we would like to interest you with the wonderful world of Beer Can Chicken. It's a simple recipe and perfect conversation piece at your next BBQ party. For one recipe, click HERE. As always, feel free to experiment with the spices and techniques! Customer Comment Of The Week...With summer upon us, I thought this latest customer comment was appropriate. I'll let Daryl from Illinois take it away... "Your Hefeweizen is the best!!!!!!!! I live in Illinois and haven't
found one even close to yours. I wish you sold it in Illinois."I couldn't have said it better! With temperatures quickly rising, our Hefeweizen just seems to get more and more popular. Stop in and have one on our patio today! Well, this is easily the shortest Brewsletter you'll ever get but don't
get too comfy, I'll be blowing your mind with great stuff all summer
long! See you all next week!
Cheers!
In their efforts to regulate beer quality, the ancient Babylonians, who
were among history's earliest brewers, decreed that any commercial
beermaker who sold unfit beer would be drowned in his/her own libation.
