There is no better indicator that summer is coming to its waning
conclusion than checking the top box office draws of the weekend!
That's correct, from May through September we're served up such

wonderful eye
candy as Indiana Jones, Iron Man, and The Dark Knight.
What does autumn bring? A talking chihuahua
movie. Yup, as action/adventure summer slowly morphs into kiddie
friendly holiday fare, I look back and think about what I've learned
from previous summer action flicks.
First of all, if the movie trailer starts off with "A routine rescue
mission" and it stars Bruce Willis, it will NOT be routine.
Secondly, if your boyfriend happens to be an amnesic, special ops,
Government secret weapon and looks alot like Matt Damon, all you have
to do to hide from that same government (who is no doubt trying to hunt
you down and kill you) is cut your hair really short and dye it a
different color. Voila, feel free to move about in complete anonymity! Lastly,
if the movie stars Larry The Cable Guy I will not go see it... case
closed.
On a totally different rift, don't forget to go out and buy a Governor Sarah Palin doll
for your children this holiday season. Feel free to dress her up
in a power gubanatorial outfit or a sassy school girl combo...naughty,
naughty! Depending on the outcome November 4th, they may not be
around long! We're still working on the "Cuddle Me"
Patrick Murphy plush toy now in authentic Telluride drinking fatigues
(pillow not included!) to hopefully display alongside the Palin doll
for the X-mas rush! Stay tuned (just kidding!).
Well, this week we recap our delicious beer dinner from October
7th. The Brewers would like to remind you to come in and say
"hello" to an old friend if you haven't lately. Karina
from up Scottsdale way shares a few things that are near and dear to
her heart, and lastly we ask Renee Velasquez a few questions about
life, the universe and everything.
Just a quick reminder, on Saturday, October 18th, we will be operating
within the Beer Garden of the Third Annual Roosevelt Row
Harvest Festival! It is a cool little street
festival taking place between 4th and 7th Street on East Roosevelt
which includes live music as well as pumpkin bowling!! Admission
is free, so we hope to see you down there.
Hasta,
Your Friends at The Four Peaks Brewery and Four Peaks Grill & Tap

Beer Dinner Redux
The hot, dust-hazed Arizona sun
slowly faded into the horizon as the waxing half moon began to glow
with ever more prominence. A larger and larger assortment of
automobiles began to collect along the north side of 8th Street in
beautiful Tempe, Arizona. The well-dressed patrons filed into
the old converted creamery slowly, but with one, and only one, thing
on their collective minds...BEER DINNER!!
Tha t's right ladies and
gentle folk, the latest in the long line of Four Peaks Gourmet Beer
Dinners was Tuesday night and I would say one of the smoothest
running and well-balanced ever! Guests were treated to a
"town hall" style operation where questions were asked to
both our brewers and our chefs! Although both were given
difficult questions about pairings, flavors, aromas, and awesome
looking chef coats sported by both Arthur and Daryn, there was little
in the way of personal attacks. The common consensus was that
the only clear winner for the evening's extravaganza was the ticket
holders themselves! I'm sorry; I guess the memories of the beer
dinner and the 2nd Presidential debate have somehow intermingled.
This latest Dining event was also one of the largest we've ever
undertaken. All in all, I believe we were able to accommodate a
service of 90 people. No small feat. Needless to say
everyone left with a full stomach and a smile on their face.
Thanks to everyone who showed up to make this yet another rousing
success, see you at the next one!

As
the weeks fly by, all I can think about is the much anticipated Pumpkin Porter. The
excitement has been building up inside me and I know I won't be
disappointed come the 20th of October. We still have our
current seasonal, the Belgian Wit, so if you haven't had a chance to
enjoy a pint, come in and make it happen! As many of you know,
theWalk to Defeat ALS is this Sunday! If you haven't already
visited our Team Walk
Page please do so HERE.
You can join our walk team, or simply donate to our existing
team. It's for a great cause, and we appreciate you helping us
to help them find a cure for this horrible disease.
Also, don't forget that the 4th Annual Charity Golf
Tournament is coming up here in November. I know I have mentioned it
a few times, but you really don't want to miss out on it! Spots
are filling up quick so please let me know if you want to play.
If you have any questions don't hesitate to ask me; I am here to
help, because quite frankly what else would they pay me for,
right?
In non-Four Peaks related news, I hope all you students are having a
great semester so far...just think...the semester will be over in
about two months. Time really is flying by. I can't wait
to be a college graduate this coming December, and I know all of you
are just so proud of me! Have a wonderful week.
Cheers!

5 Questions With Renee Velasquez.
In the interest of being a little more balanced, I have taken notice
of the fact that I have yet to throw any questions towards the female
portion of the workforce. This does seem a little odd since a
good two-thirds of Team Four Peaks happen to be of the fairer
sex. Well, worry no longer, I have remedied this affliction by
putting the spotlight on fellow bartender Renee Velasquez!
Much like I regaled you with that precious little story of Steve and
myself last week, I shall throw you out another! I remember
Renee's first day like it was yesterday...there she was, young,
fresh-faced and pixie-like, being trained by (former Four Peaks
employee) Brooklyn Yates, and all I could think of was, "Oh my
God, how long have I worked here! They're training people with
the people that were once trained by my trainees!" Did you
follow??? Good story, good story!
Well here you go... she's young, she's personable, and she's a close
friend of Sarah Kelly! Miss Velasquez, I have a question for
you...
1. You're stranded on a desert island with one Four Peaks
beer, which would it be and why?
mmm...HOP KNOT!!!!!! It's the perfect beer.... I think about it
every time I pour one at work. It's the perfect blend of
American hops, strong earthy aroma, high alcohol... what more could a
girl ask for in a beer?
2. Being a Culinary School graduate, what would you say
is the one dish you enjoy making most for a party of friends?
This is a hard one, there's a few.... I always like making a healthy
organic meal because I know everyone is going to get lots of
nutrients and feel great afterwards. Cupcakes are my favorite
for birthdays. There was one big hit I made for everyone at
work one time.... warm peanut butter and banana sandwiches with
cinnamon, sugar, and marshmallow. They were a messy good time!
3. As an L.A. native you no doubt know that the city was
founded September 4, 1781, by Spanish governor Felipe de Neve as El
Pueblo de Nuestra Señora la Reina de los Ángeles de la Porciúncula
(The Village of Our Lady, the Queen of the Angels of Porziuncola).
What 3 items would you put on a 12" Four Peaks BYO pizza?
Chicken, pineapple, and cilantro! I had a good experience with
these three toppings in high school and ever since then I can't get
enough.
4. We both suffer from a common affliction called copious
ingestous caffienitis (coffee addiction). I start off my day
with 8 cups of conventional drip followed by a quad shot Americano
chaser all washed down with 4 oz. of water to cleanse my palette (on
days I wasn't drinking the night before). How do you start your
morning?
Well, these days I wake up and walk to my kitchen and brew a pot of
coffee. My favorite is Cafe Brit dark roast made in Costa Rica,
but when i run out, my second choice is Don Fransisco's Vanilla
Nut. I drink it black, I'll let my roommates have a cup, but if
I'm on my way to work I'll brew another pot to go or I'll stop at my
favorite Starbucks coffee on Southern and McClintock and get my
quad-grande Americano, hot or iced depending on the
weather. Once in a while I'll change it up with a vanilla
latte with soy milk and an extra shot. And then if I'm at work
I'll need a red bull around midnight.
5. Hypothetically speaking, you've been drinking all
night, it is now 9 o'clock in the morning. What kind of omelet
would you order at the Yucca Tap Room which now serves both
Kiltlifter and 8th Street Ale on draught, which beer would go
down best?
Veggie omelet with egg whites, potatoes, and ketchup... and at 9 in
the morning at Yucca its a Bloody Mary for sure!
Alright, alright...I'll let you off the hook with the Bloody Mary
answer because of my first question. It's my fault anyway; in
my relentless pursuit of quality and integrity, sometimes I repeat
myself. But I do it for all you fine folks out there, I'm
bleeding tears for you!!!

Coffee I Have Ever Tasted!

Brewers Blog XVIII: Reaching Out To An Old
Friend...
We have this friend that we've known forever. We've got the
same experiences, the same likes and interests and we like hanging
out together. The problem is we just don't do it all that
often.
This friend is always there for us. Always ready for a good
time, someone that can keep a conversation going and make you feel
good at the same time. We rarely invite this friend out but he
always seems to be there. And at the end of the night we say,
"Thanks, that was really fun", and,"we'll see you next
time".
Only we don't.

We tend to take this friend for granted. We forget, sometimes,
that he's around. So we'll invite other friends who are just as
fun but might be new to us and, at the moment, more interesting
because we're still learning about them. This will go on for a
few weeks and then there he is again, and we remember what a great
guy he is. We have a great time and then part ways. Until
we meet at some other bar in a few more weeks.
Of course we're talking about beer (this isn't a relationship
blog). I guess what we're getting at is that certain beers,
like certain people, float in and out of our lives but the good ones
always come back. What beer in particular got us thinking this
way?
Kilt Lifter.
We are guilty of taking this beer for granted. It's always been
here, since day one. Although we've never tired of it we simply
get caught up in new seasonal beers or we get an insatiable need for
hops that distracts us from this wonderful beer. But it's that
time when we can't decide what we want, when we're unsure of going
with a Hefe-weizen or a Hop Knot that we fall back to our roots and
we get excited all over again.
Kilt Lifter, what a work horse. It makes up over 50% of our
total production and after so many years it is finally being seen as
"Arizona's beer". After all the medals, all the
awards, all the bottles and kegs and pints; it never gets old.
We guess you could call it reassuring.
We could all use a little reassuring right now and what better way
than a few minutes with an old friend.

CASK-CONDITIONED AND
SEASONALS

IN SCOTSDALE THIS WEEK
8th Street Ale: We combine rare imported Kentish and
Fuggle Hops with our reproduced version of the Burton water

delicious "English Best Bitter." It'll keep you
happy!
IN TEMPE THIS WEEK
Hop Knot I.P.A.: A patriotic roll call of such styles as
Liberty, Glacier, and Palisade comprise this complex mixture of six
American style hops. This one-time seasonal ale has taken on a
life of its own to be one of the most popular beers we've ever
created!
LE
SEASONAL DU JOUR!
Hoof-Hearted Wit: Our version of a Belgian
Wit. You've read the descriptions, perused our rhetoric, and
seen the love we have for this style. Come in and get one

chance!

Now A Few Parting Words...
Lest, I would be remiss if I did not mention the awards, accolades,
and honorable mentions bestowed upon us from the Phoenix New Times
Best of 2008 issue. We were bequeathed the "Best Bar
Food" award for both of our locations, much appreciated.
The Tempe location was given both the "Best Sports Bar,
Tempe" honor as well as the Readers Choice award for "Best
Brewery" so we thank all of you who voted. The Scottsdale
Grill and Tap received the "Best Beer for Wine Snobs" award
for the Hopsquatch. Although served at both locations, the
Scottsdale location tends to have it available for a longer duration
than your brewpub friends in Tempe. So get your arse up there
and have one today! But seriously, all of us at Four Peaks
would like to thank you for your continued patronage and praise, it
never gets old!
Oh yeah, keep your eyes posted here next week as The Four Peaks
Brewing Team takes Denver, Colorado by storm for the Great American
Beer Festival! We've entered six beers, let's hope for six more
medals!
"I am a firm believer in the people. If given the truth, they
can be depended upon to meet any national crisis. The great point is
to bring them the real facts, and beer."
