Four Peaks Employee Newsletter – August 2018
Welcome to August, Team Four Peaks. Big month, this one. We’ve got six, count ’em, six beers tapping this month, several consumer-facing and internal events, and many more important updates from each department. Read on to find out about it all.
THIS MONTH’S NEW BEERS
Blueberry Gose – available now
Tart, fruity and a brilliant shade of purple, this sour and salty German-style ale was brewed with Arizona-grown wheat and more than 200 pounds of fresh, pureed blueberries. 4.7% ABV
Gumleaf Schooner – available now
Inspired by beers from Australia but brewed with American spirit, this beer combines Calypso and experimental 07270 hops for a flavor packed with pear, tropical fruit and mint. The name comes from the gumleaf plant (a nickname for eucalyptus, a favorite snack of the koala) and the schooner, a type of pint glass popular in pubs down under. 5.7% ABV
Brut IPA – available now
In the world of Champagne and sparkling wine, “brut” is used to denote bubbly that’s “dry,” meaning it has little to no residual sweetness. It’s a word that’s equally applicable to the NorCal-born variant of IPA known as “Brut IPA,” which gets its dryness via added enzymes that break down the starches in malt further than normal; the extra work they do allows the yeast to consume more of the malt’s sugars during fermentation, resulting in a beer that’s both low in sweetness and high in alcohol content. An experimental hop known as HBC522—added during dry-hopping only—imbues the brew with flavors of orange, peach, cherry and tropical fruits. 6.7% ABV
Ginger Grapefruit Radler – available now
After a spectacular debut this spring, this refreshing thirst-crusher is returning this month. It uses our Golden Lager as a base, then is juiced-up with additions of ginger and organic grapefruit. 3.8% ABV
All Dogs Go To Hefen – coming August 21
Four Peaks Hefeweizen is back. We resurrected this crowd favorite for our second collaboration with John Holmberg and 98KUPD benefitting the Arizona Humane Society, albeit with one small tweak: we infused the brew with citrusy Mandarina and Cascade hops (because John loves his hops) as well as lemon and orange peel from Greenfield Citrus Nursery in Mesa. 5.7% ABV
Pumpkin Porter – coming August 27
Yep, it’s coming back this month. Our Pumpkin Porter is a dark, rich beer combined with all the things that make a great pumpkin pie: nutmeg, allspice, some ground clove and a little ginger. It’s our most popular seasonal beer and has been for over a decade. While Monday, August 27 is the “official” release date, Pumpkin Porter will actually go on tap at 10 p.m. August 26. 5.1% ABV
THIS MONTH’S EVENTS
Mile High Brew Fest – Saturday, August 11
Beer from 30-plus breweries, plus local restaurants, food trucks and live music, all in the pleasant air of a Prescott summer. 4-8 p.m.
All Dogs Go To Hefen Release Party – Tuesday, Aug. 21
Remember Holmberg Bound? People loved last year’s collaboration we brewed with John Holmberg and 98 KUPD so much, we had to team up again. But this time, we made something a little different: A summer beer called All Dogs Go to Hefen. John Holmberg and the other guys from Holmberg’s Morning Sickness will be at 8th Street to meet fans, and folks who order the new beer will get branded dog toys and KUPD swag. 6-9 p.m.

Four Peaks 4 Teachers wrap-up
The letter above is from a teacher who received school supplies as part of this year’s Four Peaks 4 Teachers program. We’d like to echo her thanks to everyone who assisted in the promotion and execution of the program. Through beer and raffle ticket sales, we were able to raise funds that resulted in 4,500 kits of school supplies being purchased and distributed to teachers throughout the state. We were also able to make a $12,500 donation to Treasures 4 Teachers, which will provide school supplies to even more teachers throughout the year. That success wouldn’t be possible without the help of dozens of people. Thanks for making this program such a success.
Also, congrats to Cole Halas, winner of the Four Peaks 4 Teachers raffle ticket sales contest!
Beer Stock Photography Sucks. We’re Trying To Make It Better.
As part of a larger initiative to improve the beer industry, we teamed up with 10 Barrel Brewing Company, Karbach Brewing Co. and Veza Sur Brewing Co to solve a problem a number of beer journalists had complained to us about: terrible beer stock photography. Most of the pics available online, they said, showed dirty beer glasses; unsanitary serving practices; a lack of diversity in the people making, serving and drinking the beer; or all of the above. So we created databases of stock photography—available for free via
Pexels and Unsplash—that solves those problems. Find out more here.
Kilt Lifter Brats Are Now In Stores
We’ve partnered with Arizona-based sausage company Denmark Foods to produce bratwurst infused with Four Peaks beer! Kilt Lifter-soaked brats are in the market and available now at grocery stores; keep an eye out for Pumpkin Porter and Peach Ale/Habanero brats in the coming months.
