Since the day we opened our doors in 1996, Four Peaks has strived to be a welcome gathering place for all people, regardless of race, religion, sexual orientation, gender identity, or creed. But it’s not enough to simply open your establishment to all members of the community. We must work to become stronger allies to people of color and use our platform in ways that can create change.

In this spirit, we’ll be participating in the Black is Beautiful initiative created by Weathered Souls Brewing Co. in San Antonio, Texas. A collaborative effort across the U.S. brewing community, Black is Beautiful is an attempt to bring awareness to the injustices that many people of color face daily.

Every one of the more than 800 breweries taking part in this initiative will brew and sell a beer with the name Black is Beautiful and direct all proceeds from its sales to local groups that support equality and inclusion. We’ve chosen the Greater Phoenix Urban League, which strives to equip disadvantaged groups in Phoenix with the tools to achieve economic and social equality.

Our version of Black is Beautiful is a barrel-aged imperial stout aged on cherries. We’ll be releasing it at 8th Street on Friday, June 26. The beer will be available on draft and in growlers, and as we mentioned, 100% of the proceeds will be going to the Greater Phoenix Urban League.

We recognize that this is a small step toward a much larger goal, so we also promise to commit ourselves to the long-term work of equality. We’ll continue to invest in our staff through bias and diversity training, we’ll seek out more diverse candidates to become part of our team, and we’ll elevate the voices of those in our community by forging new partnerships with Black-owned businesses.

Four Peaks will always be a place where all people are welcome, but where discrimination is not. We believe that Black lives matter, and we promise to work toward bringing about real, long-lasting change in our company and community.
