It’s Tea Time: Senchado Green Tea Lager arrives this week
Giving a whole new meaning to “afternoon tea,” this week we’re launching Senchado Green Tea Lager: a smooth, 4.9% ABV lager infused with soothing sencha green tea.
You may recognize this beer; we’ve previously released versions in small batches that were only available on draft at our pubs, but kegs always sold out quickly. Reading the proverbial tea leaves, we scaled up the recipe, gave the beer a proper name—Senchado is Japanese for “the way of sencha” and describes the process of making and enjoying green tea—and packaged it in six-packs of bottles that will be available throughout Arizona as well as some of our expansion states.
“Coffee beers have been popular in the craft beer community for years, but we thought it was time the second most famous breakfast beverage got a little love,” says Four Peaks founder and head brewer Andy Ingram. “Sencha green tea has this smooth, earthy flavor that works really well in a lager, since it’s subtle enough not to overpower the underlying beer.”
Senchado will launch during a tapping party at the Tempe and Scottsdale pubs on Thursday, Jan. 30. Drop in from 5-8 p.m. to meet the brewers who designed Senchado while grabbing free samples of the beer and other tea-infused treats. Six-packs will be available in select grocery stores and bottle shops beginning the following week; check our Beer Finder to see if the beer is available near you.
