Four Peaks is Haunted

We’re just going to say it: The Old Creamery Building, aka the home of Four Peaks Brewing Co., is haunted. But doesn’t every old building come with a story about a strange bump in the night, maybe some weird shadow they couldn’t explain? It sure seems that most do. But how many of those buildings have multiple stories of phantom touches, shadow people, or meeting one of their spirits face-to-face?

A GHOSTLY TENANT

For many, walking around our old building can be a spiritual – in the haunted sense – experience. And unlike other places, we’ve not only met one of our ghosts, but we’ve put a name to his face: Victor Vogel. A former superintendent (basically, a general manager) of the then-Borden Creamery and Ice Factory, Vogel worked in the building for nearly 20 years, beginning in 1927. Though he would later leave the creamery business, it seems his soul returned after he passed away in 1972. How do we know that?

someone say Séance?

Simple: Our head brewer, Andy, met him face-to-face a few months before we opened. But it wasn’t just a simple apparition – far from it. Andy actually spoke with Victor, who told Andy about how he nearly died in an accident years prior in the very spot where we built a cooler. Malarkey? Maybe. Except Victor’s family later confirmed that every word Andy was told was true. And it spooked our founders enough that they decided to hold their own séance.

Dead Man Party

Victor doesn’t wander the building alone. A tall, gray man has been seen, as has the spirit of a little girl. We also have a more “territorial” spirit we call Anthony, who doesn’t like visitors. Where did they all come from? We’re not quite sure yet. Unlike Victor, their photos don’t seem to be in any newspapers. But 8th Street has been inhabited for at least 1,200 years. First by indigenous people, specifically the Akimel O’Odham -- it’s worth noting that not one, but two, indigenous cemeteries were discovered just down the street – and later white and Mexican settlers. There’s a lot of history to find. Who knows what spirits we have yet to contact?
